When talking rosé, France somehow dominates the discussion. However, pink wines can be many anywhere using any grape. This southern Italian rosato (Italian for rosé), for instance, is produced using the popular aglianico variety. The grape is thought to have Greek origins and is known for producing deeply colored, richly flavored reds often with a tannic bite. Cantina del Taburno is a co-operative of growers who have focused on quality wines. To that end, the team of winemakers is consistently analyzing their results to find the best matches for grapes to soil & climate. This soft, fruitful rosato is but one of their charming wines. The softness is in part due to, at least a sense of, lower acidity. While still refreshing, those who look for a more fruitful, texturally round wine will enjoy this richly hued rosé. Pair it with sweet Italian sausage off the grill, or a platter piled high with grilled shrimp, roasted red peppers and pan-roasted potatoes.
