Organic before organic was cool (fully organic since the ‘80s), Luigi and Giovanna Barberani started making wine near Umbria’s Lake Corbara back in 1961. Today the estate has grown to encompass 55 hectares of vineyards, expertly managed by Luigi’s son Niccolò, who practices biodynamic as well as organic viticulture. This refreshing white is made from 70% grechetto and 30% trebbiano procanico grapes, which are hand harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel. The result is a refreshingly versatile sipper, which begins with a floral, slightly almond-tinged nose, before bright citrus, persimmon, and grapefruit pith flavors sashay across a rocky, petrol, petrichor dance floor. A smooth, zesty, lightly nutty finish rounds things off in style, whether you’re having it as an aperitivo, or with seafood, chicken, or other lighter fare. Pinot grigio fans looking for an elegant way to switch things up, take note! Certified organic, biodynamically-grown, vegan.
