Benmarl Winery, owned and operated by the Spaccarelli family, is one of our most local wineries, located in the lush green hills of Marlboro, on the west side of the Hudson River, where their property overlooks a beautiful valley. Its 37 acre estate lays claim to the oldest vineyard in America, also holding New York Farm Winery license no.1 (the first ever farm winery license to be issued in New York). For this cabernet franc, however, winemaker Matt Spaccarelli draws from vineyards on the west side of Seneca Lake, in the Finger Lakes region, for a mellow, dark-fruited celebration of New York. Handpicked grapes are brought down to Benmarl for processing, where they’re whole-cluster pressed before aging in 2-4 year-old french oak for 10 months and bottled unfined and unfiltered. On the palate, it’s delicious and balanced, with plush fruit tones countered by earthier notes.
