The Bitouzet family settled in Volnay in 1804, and were among the first family domaines to bottle their own wines. Fast forward to present times, where for over three decades Vincent Bitouzet has been making acclaimed, age-worthy wines in a classical style befitting his family’s deep Burgundian roots. Now assisted by his son, Francois, the pair continue to honor their family and regional traditions both in the cellar and in their organically farmed vineyards, which span 12 hectares in Volnay and Meursault. This Passetoutgrains comes from the Grange le Duc vineyard next to Volnay, with 70% pinot noir (planted in 1974) and 30% gamay (planted in 1953), both hand harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts before resting for a year in used 228-liter barrels. Juicy and approachable yet with an underlying finesse and elegance, it unfurls layers of dark cherry and spiced blueberry on a luxuriously silky palate that finishes with soft-grained tannin and a streak of savory earth. Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine.
