The Sumarroca estate, purchased in 1999, is family owned and operated and produces classic, elegant Cava from estate-grown fruit. It is the largest estate in Penedés. Cava is Spain’s most famous sparkling wine. In order to be called Cava, the wine has to be made using the Champagne method, or método tradicional, where the secondary fermentation happens in the bottle. 95% of Cava is produced in the Penedés area of Catalonia, located just southwest of Barcelona. Gravelly, calcareous soils and sea breezes moderated by the Garraf Mountains allow for the production of elegant, balanced wines with fresh fruit character at this estate. They use the classic Cava blend: macabeo, xarel-lo, and parellada, with the addition of 10% chardonnay, all of it aged a minimum of 20 months. This bottling has fresh aromas of citrus, minerals and pastry, while the palate offers up fresh, tart citrus and herbs. Soft mousse and a long, creamy finish make this an elegant value! Organically grown.
