In 1999, the Sumarroca family purchased the vast estate formerly owned by the Marquis of Monistrol and began making wine from their 220 hectares of vines, situated between the villages of Sant Sadurní and Monistrol d’Anoia, eventually becoming the largest estate in Penedés. Their organically farmed vineyards are south-facing, protected by the Montserrat mountains, and enjoy the benefits of the Mediterranean coastal climate and the inland “terral” wind. Sumarroca Brut Reserva is a definite upgrade from everyday cava: made from fruit harvested from the best plots of traditional cava grape varietals - macabeo, xarel-lo, parellada, and chardonnay, all of it aged a minimum of 20 months. This bottling has fresh aromas of citrus, minerals and pastry, while the palate offers up fresh, tart citrus and herbs. Soft mousse and a long, creamy finish make this an elegant value! Organically grown.
