Chris Brockway built Broc Cellars on a philosophy of sourcing sustainable and organic fruit in order to create exceptional wines. He takes a hands-off approach, allowing nature to be in charge, using only organic growing practices and indigenous yeasts to ferment his wines, never adding or taking anything away. For Chris, the ‘Perfect Red’ means, “Something that’s easy to drink but has enough complexity to elevate the wine…is affordable and ‘perfect’ for what it is and how it’s priced.” The 2023 ‘Perfect Red’ is 75% cabernet sauvignon and 25% cabernet franc, deliberately done in a fresher style than other cab bottlings. Grapes are harvested at lower brix (sugar content) than in neighboring Napa Valley, with most of the cabernet sauvignon grapes destemmed and the remainder left whole cluster. Fermentations occur with indigenous yeast and pressing is done early to lessen the amount of tannins in the finished wine. It all adds up to a deftly balanced blend of dark berries, roasted red peppers, and crushed green herbs, finishing with gently supportive tannins.
