Dr. László Bussay founded his family’s winery in Zala, Hungary 1989, eager to revive the region’s winemaking industry. Dr. Bussay’s daughter, Doroytta, has since taken over as winemaker, overseeing the winery becoming certified organic in 2018 as well as being honored with international recognition by Decanter Magazine for two of their wines. Csókaszőlő is an ancient, indigenous Hungarian grape that is rarely seen in modern plantings, making this an extra special wine. The wine is fermented in open vats with native yeast and then moved to large Hungarian oak barrels for an additional 7 months of aging on its lees. Bright, juicy, with brambly red fruits, such as cherry, pomegranate juice, and a hint of smokiness. Smooth and approachable yet firm tannins. Certified organic, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
