The son of a family that grows cork trees, Carlos Raposo set out for France to learn the craft of winemaking. Having studied in Bordeaux and Dijon, he eventually made his way back to Portugal (via Spain, California, and Australia). Carlos made his way from assistant up to head winemaker at Niepoort before striking out on his own in the Dão. For his solo project, World Wide Wines, he sources old-vine, organic and biodynamically grown grapes from around the Dão region. This ‘Impecável’ (impeccable) is an expertly made, unoaked expression of one of Portugal’s signature varieties: touriga nacional. Harvested by hand and destemmed, the grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel. Fresh, herbal, and floral, this medium-bodied red bursts with fresh cherry, while incorporating the subtle complexity of its cooler vineyard sites. Organically grown, biodynamically grown, low-intervention/natural wine.
