Família Carvalho-Martins is an established wine producer located in the Douro Superior region of Portugal. The family has owned Quinta Vale do Olmo for four generations, where vines are planted in schist soils at a high altitude. The vines have an average age of 25 years and produce grapes of unique concentration, structure, and acidity. The quinta is managed by brothers Vasco and Rui Martins, who left careers in banking and law to focus on winemaking. The family is committed to sustainable and organic farming methods throughout the vineyard and winery. The grapes are hand-harvested, pressed, and fermented. During fermentation, must is added to the juice to impart a bit of phenolics. The wine is later aged in neutral French barrels. This is an interpretation of a “palhete” style wine – a lighter red, low in alcohol, meant to be served slightly chilled. The wine is crushable, with bright acidity and a subtle grip of tannin, featuring floral notes, cranberry juice, candied orange peel, and a hint of dank potting soil. Organically grown, sustainably grown.
