Château Arton was founded in 1979 by Patrick de Montal and Victoire de Montesquiou, who uprooted their lives in Paris and settled in the tiny village of Arton in the heart of Haut-Armagnac. They planted their first vines in 1981 on the distinctive rocky, hilly terroir and threw themselves into building their estate, quite literally, from the ground up. Fast forward to present day, and their passion and commitment have richly paid off. The estate is now run by Jean and Lili de Montal; their philosophy that exceptional Armagnac is “grown, not produced” has resulted in Château Arton being awarded the Prix d’Excellence - the highest honor possible - from the French ministry of Agriculture in 2017. Out of over 22,000 spirits, Château Arton was named the producer of the best brandy (not just Armagnac, but brandy overall!) in the country - and it was this exact blend that won! Made from estate-grown colombard and ugni blanc grapes, distilled and aged on site for at least six years, this bottling is a beautiful expression of the elegance and character Haut-Armagnac can exhibit. Ethereal notes of wildflowers and chamomile tea lead into a palate layered with pear, tangerine, and candied orange peel.
