The history of Château Massiac dates back to the Roman Empire when Roman colonizers entered via the nearby Mediterranean port of Narbonne. Located in the Auvergne region, nearly exactly halfway between the clock towers of Azille and Rieux Minervois, the site was settled in the 17th century by two brothers who traveled the area in the service of the king of Spain. Burned to the ground during the French Revolution, the domaine has much more recently been revived by Bernard Boudouresques and his family, who planted vineyards and converted the estate to organic viticulture, achieving organic certification in 2012. Situated on the sloping foothills of the far south of the Massif Centrale, the limestone and clay soils boast excellent drainage, producing excellent concentration in the wines of the area. The influence of cooling winds from both the Mediterranean and the northwest mountain wind (Le Cers) provides protection from disease. ‘Cuvée Sentinelle’ is a blend of two-thirds syrah and one-third carignan, fermented and aged in tank and bottled within a year of harvest. Rustic, earthy notes of dark fruit, spice, and saddle leather mingle on a satisfyingly meaty frame. Great for pairing with grilled meats, BBQ, or lentil stews. Certified organic.
