Château Meyney lies across hillsides spanning some of the best terroir above the Gironde estuary, a bucolic setting with the river meandering right next to the first rows of vines. The château appears in records dating back to 1662, then a convent belonging to the Feuillants monks, and was among the first sites in the Médoc to be planted to vines. The combination of distinctive terroir, prime site, and a long, storied history make it a noteworthy Médoc estate to this day! The 2012 is medium-bodied with layers of dark blackberry, plum, and loamy soil. Notes of wild herbs, dried orange peel, and hints of cocoa nibs and peppercorns round out an elegant, substantial cuvée, closing with an earthy backbone of tannin. Drink now or cellar for up to a decade.
