Domaine Philémon is located in Villeneuve-sur-Vère, a small village on the Vère river in the Gaillac appellation of southwest France. The Vieules family grows organic wheat, sunflowers, and grapes in Villeneuve, as they have since since 1804. “Croix d’Azal” comes from a one hectare plot of braucol grapes planted by Mathieu Vieules in 2003. Braucol is the name used in Gaillac for the fer servadou grape. Although it translates as “bull”, this is no raging animal, but rather one who prefers to hang out peacefully in a grassy, floral pasture! 100% braucol, this cuvée highlights the delightful spicy, floral, woodsy and dark character of this lesser-known grape and has a balanced acidity and tannin structure. Certified organic.
