Damijan Podversic was not afraid of a challenge - despite being told that the plot he had discovered in Collio Goriziano was too difficult to manage, he dove in headfirst, cleared the land and replanted. Intent on making natural wines of the highest quality, he studied under the legendary natural producer Josko Gravner, quickly differentiating himself stylistically from his mentor. One distinguishing characteristic of the region where Damijan grows his vines is the soil type - Ponka, a blend of marl and sandstone that contains fossils that originated from the Adriatic Sea. This wine is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, a classic combination where the backbone of tannin contributed by the Cabernet is softened by the softer, fruitier Merlot, perfectly integrated after 36 months in large oak vessels. Rich, silky, and luxurious, the wine opens with intense notes of red berries, blueberry, a hint of vanilla, finishing with cocoa and baking spices that linger on the palate long after the last sip. Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine.
