Stefano Papetti Ceroni and Eloisa de Fermo met as law students in Bologna, where they eventually went on to hold successful law careers and raise two children. Stefano had no agricultural background whatsoever, but had nurtured a passion for wine since his teen years, and in 2007 Eloisa suggested they take a trip to her family’s farm in Abruzzo, a property that had been in her family for years, but which they no longer had much connection with. Stefano was immediately smitten and began spending every weekend at the farm, learning from the contadini (hired farmers) managing the property. The discovery of an old cellar in the abandoned farmhouse led him to restore the old concrete tanks and begin producing his own wine, and today he manages all 16 ha of the estate’s vines. ‘Concrete Rosso’ is made with hand harvested montepulciano from all four of De Fermo’s biodynamic-certified plots, fermented with ambient yeasts and aged in concrete tanks for up to a year before bottling without fining or filtration. Soft dark notes of plum, black cherry, and blackberry mingle with crushed fresh herbs over an earthy mineral core. Organically grown, certified biodynamic, low-intervention/natural wine.
