Bodegas del Río 'Solera Playa' Manzanilla Fina Sanlúcar de Barrameda DO NV

Bodegas del Río is the bodega situated closest to the Guadalquivir river - just a few meters from its sandy shore, which is ideal for flor development and the production of delicate, refined manzanilla. The bodega was founded by Ángel del Río in 1990, and at first operated solely as an almacenista (a supplier of wines to other bodegas for export), supplying some of the most prestigious sherry houses in Spain. The family owns seven hectares of vines in the Pago Miraflores, a prestigious coastal vineyard regarded as a ‘Grand Cru’ for manzanilla production. Now owned by Ángel’s sons, in 2022 Bodegas del Río produced their first estate bottling of 500 cases. This ‘Solera Playa’ is distinguished by its freshness and saline character, offering up brisk yellow lemon and apple notes quickly followed by gusts of briny beach air, and hints of nori and dried stemmy herbs. A faint hint of cardamom leads into a lingering seaside finish.
