Thibault Charnay returned to his hometown and the family vineyards in 2012, after a decade in the construction business, and transformed the domaine over the next few years. He expanded the family’s vineyard holdings around the town of Anse, converted to organic farming practices, and began to make and bottle his own wine for the first time in 2019. Instrumental in the transformation was Thibault’s brother-in-law, Raphael Saint-Cyr, well known as a dynamic, organic Beaujolais producer in his own right. This wine stands out in its confident, bright, and herbal complexity. It ferments via cold carbonic maceration with indigenous yeasts in concrete. Domaine Charnay produces only this one cuvée, but that is enough for us! Light in color and body, it exudes earth and subtle red fruit, with an ever-so-slight evergreen tingle on the palate. Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
