The domaine of Romain Guiberteau encompasses 9.4 ha, 7 of which are located on some of the best land in Brézé, itself an area widely considered one of the most important terroirs in the Loire Valley. Romain took over his family’s vineyards in 1996, converted to organic viticulture (certified in 2007), and has since garnered a rockstar reputation, producing chenin of remarkable intensity and complexity. Chenin occupies a bit more than half of the vineyards of the domain, with the remainder planted to cabernet franc, including a significant amount of old vines. Today, Romain’s wines are among the most sought-after in Saumur, tightly allocated and poured in the best restaurants in France. Precision and elegance are the calling cards of his winemaking, perfectly embodied in this cabernet franc. Succulent, savory, and smoky, this cuvée layers juicy red cherry and bright wild raspberry notes with lush crushed green herbs, roasted red bell pepper, and a generous dash of cracked black peppercorns on the finish. Absolutely luscious to drink now, but will easily age for another 5 years. Certified organic, low-intervention/natural wine.
