We've gushed a lot about Andrew and Jennifer from Eminence Road Farm Winery over the years because they keep producing wines of quality and intrigue that don't burn the wallet. Not only that, but their wines lend credence to the overall rising quality of New York State Wines. Based in a converted cow barn in the mountain valley of Long Eddy, NY, on the western edge of the Catskills, Eminence Road is, in a way, a Finger Lakes winery. All of their wines are made from sustainably grown Finger Lakes grapes, fermented with native yeast, and bottled by hand, unfined and unfiltered with the only addition being a minimal amount of sulfur for stability. This cabernet franc comes from grapes grown in Lamb’s Quarters Vineyard, situated on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake in Lodi, NY. Grapes were crushed into a bin with 50% stem inclusion and left to ferment with once daily punchdowns. After 21 days, they were then pressed and the juice transferred to old French oak barrels to complete fermentation, including full malolactic, before being bottled by hand without fining or filtration. Light-bodied and Loire-inspired, this offers up aromas of wild raspberries, green pepper skin, and hints of graphite and black licorice on the nose. On the palate it is bright and brambly, with red raspberry and currant flavors, juicy, lively acidity, and delicate tannin. Great with a light chill. Certified sustainable, vegan.
