Francois Villard grew up in the French countryside between Vienne and Grenoble, and started his journey in food and wine as a chef. He made the leap from chef to winemaker in 1989 and has steadily collected accolades for his wines ever since, developing a signature style known for depth and nuance. “L’appel des Sereines” is a syrah from several villages including Chavanay, Ardoix, Saint-Michel-sur-Rhône, and Verin, harvested from organically farmed young vines all grown on decomposed granitic soils. A percentage of whole cluster fermentation and aging in both stainless steel and neutral oak barrels help maintain freshness in this juicy, peppery syrah. Generous on the palate, it bursts with lively notes of blue and black berries, purple flowers, baking spice, and cracked black pepper, with hints of leather and wood smoke on the long, earthy finish. Certified organic, low-intervention/natural wine.
