Expressing the purest terroir in his exquisitely made wines from the Rutherford AVA in Napa is of utmost importance for John Williams, the legendary winemaker at Frog’s Leap. Growing up in upstate New York, John set out to follow in his family’s footsteps and continue to work the dairy farm, but his plans changed after a work study program in wine changed his career trajectory. Making his way across the country to California, he studied under Warren Winiarski and Andre Tchelistcheff at Stag’s Leap, learning from the two masters of their craft as he worked to earn a Master’s Degree in Viticulture at UC Davis. Frog’s Leap was founded in 1981 and was met with much enthusiasm right out of the gate, encouraging John to focus on developing the brand further. John’s vision is to maintain a healthy environment for the vines, specifically focusing on soil health, and in 1989 the winery became the first in Napa Valley to become certified organic through California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF). The Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is the ultimate expression of Rutherford - supple, restrained and elegant. Delectable black fruit notes meet complex flavors of graphite, cedar, earth, and savory herbs.
