Vineyard/Cellar Practices Sustainably Grown

Not many enterprises in this country can claim to be owned and operated continuously by the same group of families on the same land for 165 years. Gundlach Bundschu started when Jacob Gundlach purchased 400 acres in Sonoma in 1858 and called it Rhinefarm. Charles Bundschu, another German immigrant, joined the company a few years later. Six generations later, Bundschus still lead the winery. Though tied to tradition and committed to their legacy, the team has innovated along the way as well; in recent years, the vineyards have shifted to organic and regenerative agriculture, including the addition of sheep to the property. The vines for this gewürztraminer trace their lineage back to the original 1858 plantings: the grapes for this wine come from clones of vines that Jacob Bundschu brought from Europe. Though fermented to dryness, this robust white maintains a yeasty richness. Aromatic, fruity, and textural, it calls to mind lychee, apple, and lemon zest in succession. Sustainably grown.
