Guy Breton took over the family domaine from his grandfather in 1986 and since then has become somewhat of a living legend in Beaujolais. Inspired by Jules Chauvet’s “back to nature” philosophy, Guy was joined by fellow vignerons Marcel Lapierre, Jean-Paul Thévenet, and Jean Foillard (aka the “Gang of Four”) in championing a return to the old traditional ways, both in the vineyards and cellar. Above all, he seeks to make wines he himself wants to drink! ‘Vielles Vignes’ is made from gamay harvested from 80 year old vines farmed organically on granite soils. Aging takes place on the fine lees in Burgundian barrels. 2021 was a hot year, but Guy’s Morgon manages to be silky, energetic, and refreshing. This is an honest, authentic wine, with layers of spicy, mineral driven fruit, and a rustic character that’s just plain delicious. Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine.
