Vineyard/Cellar Practices | Organically Grown, Low-Intervention/Natural Wine |
Hugo Mendes was born and raised in Ribeira de Santarém, and although he originally studied biotech engineering, his passion for wine soon drew him to a different life journey. Since 2006 he has devoted himself exclusively to winemaking and in 2008 he began sharing his enthusiasm for oenology through a blog demystifying the winemaking process. Things came full circle in 2016, when Hugo became a producer in his own right via the first crowdfunding campaign in Portugal to finance a wine! This bottling is 100% castelão from cooler climate vineyards near Lisbon, and unfurls delicate red floral aromas when given a bit of air and time. The palate offers juicy, fresh wild berries, black pepper, crushed herbs, and a hint of spice backed by mouth watering acidity and a lingering finish that makes it a delight to pair with food. Gamay lovers: take note! Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine.
