Create an accountJanuary Spirits amaro is produced in Greenport, NY, from a blend of 21 botanicals including coffee, roasted chicory root, cardamom, dried orange, cacao nib, gentian, chinchona bark and more. All the botanicals are steeped in 102 proof spirit for 15 days, then strained, sweetened with New York State honey and Belgian candi syrup, and brought down to 64 proof before resting in rye whiskey barrels for a minimum of three months. The barrel rounds down any sharp, jarring notes, provides natural filtration and a bit of color, and also contributes some notes of whiskey on the nose and palate. A true American style amaro, this evokes southern coffee culture (coffee meets chicory) as well as Italian caffè corretto, with hints of brewed coffee, chocolate covered orange peel, and incense on a drier frame than many amari. Nuanced notes of other herbs and spices all mingle together in an elegantly balanced sipper.
