La Capranera is a project—by owner Giuseppe Pagano and winemaker Riccardo Cotarella—to celebrate indigenous grape varieties of the Campania region. Their vineyards are located in Capaccio-Paestum, right at the edge of the Cilento National Park, home to the particular breed of black goats (cilentana nera) that give the winery its name. South and southwest-facing, on soils of clay and chalk, La Capranera’s vineyards benefit from cooling winds from the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea. This falanghina fermented in stainless steel tanks, in which it subsequently aged for six months before bottling. Peach and lemon blossom combine with a delicate nuttiness on the nose, with an energetic, citrusy palate and a long, refreshing finish. Sustainably grown.
