Eduardo and Hugo Pulenta founded Pulenta Estate in 2002, carrying on their family’s esteemed three-generation reputation in winemaking. Wine is truly a family passion, as their brother Carlos Pulenta is a well-known figure in the Argentine wine-scape (he used to head the renowned Salentein estate before setting out on his own). The Pulenta Estate wines are sourced from a 135-hectare vineyard, planted with French and Italian vines imported by their father, Antonio Pulenta. Located in the prestigious Alto Agrelo section of Luján de Cuyo in Mendoza, the vineyards are 3,200 feet above sea level and the temperature swings are dramatic, creating positive conditions for viticulture. The estate is dramatically surrounded by the rising slopes of the snow-topped Andes and the vineyards are irrigated with mineral-rich run-off from the mountains. Grapes are all hand harvested and fermented in stainless steel and concrete. The wine is then aged in French oak, but a blend of 2nd- & 3rd-use barrels, so as not to overpower the generous fruit backed by hints of cocoa. Lively acidity, a round mouthfeel, and gentle tannins make this an easy-drinking and versatile choice for the table, being lighter and less jammy than a typical malbec.
