Empirical evidence that time travel is real. One sip will transport you to the foothills of Tokaj, to a vineyard site that has been held in esteem since 1686. Historically, Tokaj has been hailed as a region producing opulent dessert wines that were once the favored libation of the royal Habsburgs. However, at times, that association has served as a limiting view of an area that is capable of impressive range. In modern times, Tokaj has been showcasing their ability to produce dry white wines capable of competing on the world stage. White Burgundy, who? A prime example of this is perhaps Father Time himself, Geza Lenkey. Experimenting with aging techniques and vessels, this harslevelű is emblematic of his philosophy that indigenous Hungarian varietals have a grand potential for ageability. Spending 7 months in Hungarian oak barrels and an additional - wait for it - fourteen years in bottle, this wine is produced with certified organic fruit hailing from the aforementioned Kishegy vineyard. A lush palate offers generous notes of apricot and creme fraiche with the added complexity of bruised golden apple and warming spices. Certified organic, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
