Luigi Giordano’s estate is nestled in the heart of Piedmontese wine country, a short distance from the village of Barbaresco itself. The winery was established by Luigi’s father, Giovanni Giordano, in the 1930s, and when Luigi took over, he began bottling his wine under his own label rather than selling the fruit in bulk - an almost inconceivable move in 1958 at a time when Barbaresco was not yet even an established appellation! It all remains a family affair to this day, with Luigi’s daughter Laura and grandson Matteo (a graduate of the enology school in Alba) running the day to day work in the vineyards and cellar. This dolcetto is made from vines planted in 1971 in the subregion of Qualin, an area prized for its eastern exposure, which helps maintain the aromatic nuances of this grape varietal. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, with at least four months of aging in cement prior to bottling. Aromas of dark chocolate and fresh strawberries lead to a plush palate full of juicy dark red plum and espresso, with hints of orange-raspberry and strawberry. Certified sustainable, organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine.
