Luis Pato 'Parcela Cândido' Cercial Bairrada DOC 2022

Luis Pato (Portuguese for ‘duck’) has spent his career on the vanguard of Portuguese winemaking, and his family has been producing wine at Quina do Ribeirinho since the 18th century. In 1999, by personal choice, he decided to leave the DOC denomination and label his wines as Regional Beiras so he could have more freedom in his winemaking. Once viewed as a revolutionary of modernization, his winemaking - while technical - still retains at heart a traditional philosophy. In 2008 Pato began using the Bairrada appellation again, and today he makes an array of red, white, and sparkling wines from 20 separate blocs within 60 hectares of vineyards within Bairrada. This organically grown cercial is lively and textured on the palate, with vibrant acidity and a definition minerality alongside expressive streaks of pear and grapefruit. Organically grown.
