This wonderful value is made by Josef and Pia Wurzinger in Burgenland, Austria, at their winery in the town of Tadten in the region of Seewinkel. The name ‘Lustig’ means fun or happy in German. Their estate is situated just east of Lake Neusiedlersee, near the Hungarian border, with a Pannonian climate (the Pannonian Basin in Central Europe, a large plain that remained when the Pliocene Epoch Pannonian Sea dried out), cold winters and hot summers that are moderated by the lake. The grüner veltliner grapes come from varied soils and vineyard sites that have sand, clay, gravel, and rocky chalk. All of them feature green cover crops and herbicides are never used. The wine only sees stainless steel, is not allowed to undergo malolactic fermentation, and rests on its fine lees for ten weeks before bottling. This white is bright, crisp, and refreshing, with defining herbal, mineral and citrus-noted character. Certified organic.
