Agricola Macatho is a joint project between two Chilean natives with deep French roots. Macarena was born in Chile to a French family, and Thomas grew up in France and moved to Chile for a career in banking. Macarena knew that wine was her destiny; she studied at the University of Bordeaux and interned at the prestigious Chateau Cheval Blanc in St. Emillion. Thomas became interested in wine through a roommate; a few harvest stints were enough to have him hooked. The two met at a harvest experience in France and from there, the joint venture was born. Grapes are sourced from local growers, supporting the local families who often struggle to get fair pricing for their product. The Pais grapes are sourced from the 150 year-old Pilen Alto vineyard in the Maule valley, and the Moscatel comes from 124 year-old vines planted near Ranquil. The varietals are fermented separately, each seeing roughly 20 days of skin contact. A fresh, juicy, and light-bodied expression, flavors of tart red cherry, ripe strawberry, and citrus meet a slight smokey and peppery quality. Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine.
