Maxime Magnon is part of a new wave of wine growers who are passionately committed to organic and biodynamic viticulture. The former Burgundy native now calls the Corbieres AOC his home, and farms nine parcels, many of them old vines, across eleven hectares of incredibly challenging terrain in the Hautes Corbières sub-appellation. His steep vineyards are situated at high elevation, where the schist and limestone subsoils have very little topsoil, just rock and garrigue. He has organic certification, and also works biodynamically in the vineyard, inspired by his friends and mentors Didier Barral and Jean Foillard. ‘La Bégou’ is a blend of 50% grenache gris, 35% grenache blanc, and 15% carignan gris, fermented in foudre and aged in second-hand Burgundian barrels for 10 months. Incredibly expressive, this offers generous floral and orchard fruit notes, deftly balanced by a tension and freshness that invite sip after sip, leading into a savory saline finish. Certified organic, biodynamically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
