The subzone of Valtellina, Lombardy from which this wine hails is aptly named Inferno, as there is no shortage of sun exposure and heat. Sunlight reflects off the rocky soils of the steeply planted slopes, heightening temperatures during the day and slowly releasing heat at night, encouraging continual ripening of the grapes. The wine is aged for two years, one of which is spent in new oak, adding flavors of sweet spices such as cinnamon and cloves, hazelnut, and a slight toastiness. This wine boasts a complex nose of cherry and ripe plum. Dry, mineral driven, and harmonious with an elegant finish. A perfect pairing for meat dishes such as lamb or an aged cheese.
