Robert Sinskey is an atypical vintner: a native Californian and a wine guy who did not attend wine school; instead, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Parsons School of Design in New York City. His life in wine began when a six-month assignment assisting his father turned into a thirty-plus year obsession, and soon he was putting down roots and starting a business growing “good to the earth” wines. Over the past 25 years he has grown his 100% organic and biodynamic certified winegrowing operation to encompass over 200 acres of vineyards in the Carneros and Stags Leap districts of Napa and Sonoma Valleys. This Bordeaux-inspired blend is a deftly balanced trio of merlot, cabernet franc, and cabernet sauvignon, hand harvested from the red volcanic soils of the Mayacamas foothills in northern Los Carneros. Grapes are farmed using organic and regenerative practices, and fermented with native yeast. The wine sees two years of aging in French oak and an additional two years in bottle prior to release.  A “Right Bank Napa claret”, the 2018 POV merges the best of New World and Old World winemaking into a cuvée of remarkable depth and nuance. Bright cherry, wild blackberry, and juicy ripe raspberry sing right from the beginning, accompanied by a chorus of harmonious notes of rose petal, cacao powder, espresso, forest floor, and stemmy wild herbs throughout. The French oak influence remains subtly supportive, allowing the bold fruit and savory underpinnings of the wine to shine through the entire time. A bold, satisfying bottling to drink now, this will also develop wonderfully when cellared for a few years. Certified organic, low-intervention/natural wine.
