Schioppettino, a grape with a long growing history in Cialla, Italy, was almost lost entirely to phylloxera in the 1800's; by the 1960’s, it was considered extinct. In 1970 the Rapuzzi family founded the Ronchi di Cialla winery and discovered a miracle: around 60 or so Schioppettino vines that had survived. Within 2 years, the grape was reborn. The wine is fermented with native yeast in stainless steel, aged on its lees for 12 months followed by a few months of bottle age before release. Savory and expressive with notes of celery salt, paprika, and black pepper complemented nicely by red fruits and blackberries. Structured and balanced with velvety tannins, and extremely food friendly. Organically grown, sustainably grown, low-intervention/natural wine.
