Sanzon is a boutique winery located in a small village in the heart of Tokaj founded by Erika Racz back in 2014, after inheriting .3 hectares from her parents. A native of Tokaj, Erika now leads her 5 hectare estate with the quiet confidence of someone with a home-court advantage. Focusing on low-intervention winemaking, her sites are certified organic and she encourages spontaneous fermentations with native yeasts in the cellar. The ‘Classic’ furmint is exactly that, an emblematic expression of the finesse, quiet power, and persistent length furmint is capable of producing. Grapes grown on volcanic and predominantly rhyolite soils were hand-harvested the first week of September and experienced spontaneous fermentation in used 500L Hungarian oak barrels. Aged on the lees for 8 months in the same barrels, the wine is a masterclass in a command of texture. Dense yet supple, there is a delicate balance between a savory unctuousness and ripe, fleshy stone fruit. Move over riesling, furmint is out for your crown - think super ripe apricot, golden apple and bruised star fruit phenolics. Pair with Polish hunter’s stew or a simple plate of homemade pierogies. Also, just pound it on its own. No judgment here, folks. Certified organic, low-intervention/natural wine.
