The Sclavos family has been rooted in Cephalonia for centuries. In 1700, a part of the family moved to the port of Odessa in what is now Ukraine, and records from 1860 indicate that Evriviadis Great-Great Grandfather owned a large winery and family estate there. In 1919, after the Russian Revolution, Evriviadis Grandfather returned to Cephalonia and planted his first vines of mavrodaphne and vostilidi there on the Paliki peninsula, some of which are still harvested today. Two generations later, the domaine vineyards are meticulously managed using sustainable practices without irrigation, and wines are made via spontaneous fermentation, and are bottled unfined and unfiltered, with minimal sulfur. The focus remains firmly on producing natural Greek wines that elegantly and transparently represent the unique terroir of Cephalonia. 100% mavrodaphne, this 2013 is remarkably fresh and vibrant on the palate! Notes of bay leaf and bold layers of rustic red fruit are buttressed by a framework of dusty, grippy tannin. Low-intervention/natural wine.
