Tenuta il Nespolo is located in the small village of Moasca on the southern edge of the province of Asti, at the rare convergence zone of Asti’s two iconic DOCGs, Moscato d’Asti and Nizza Barbera. There, Luca Amerio runs his family’s estate of old vine plantings and makes wines in styles both classic and futuristic. ‘Vino da Sete’ is among the latter; a lighthearted take on vin de soif, made of 55% barbera, 35% freisa, and 10% sangiovese, co-fermented in stainless steel tanks with ambient yeast, then aged 4-5 months on the less before bottling in 1-liter format with crown cap. Medium-bodied, with fresh, juicy notes of black cherry, black currant, herbs, and spices, this is a winner with all manner of food. We’re thinking sauteed broccoli rabe and woodfired pizza, but this wine invites the imagination to go wild! Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine.
