Sauternes, who? The region of Monbazillac lies in the Dordogne, just to the south of Bergerac, and proves to be ideal for botrytized wines (aka the Noble Rot that plays a crucial part of sweet wine production). Château Tirecul la Gravière is generally recognized as the best producer in the area, whose wines hold their own with acclaimed cuvées at a world class level. This blend of sémillon and muscadelle grapes comes from the estate’s younger vines, but is made with the same meticulous craftsmanship as all of the estate’s bottlings. Sweet and intensely succulent, it delivers notes of honey, white apple blossom, candied peach, and orange marmalade, all soaring on a highwire of bright, refreshing acidity while simultaneously providing luxurious depth and complexity across a lingering finish. A perfect dessert wine to pair with coffee and nut flavors, or try it with tarte Tatin or whatever cake you’re in the mood for! Organically grown.
